How to determine your emotional type and develop stability

It would seem that most of us under the influence of emotions behave more or less the same: they cry, experiencing loss, rejoice, receiving gifts. But if we are so similar, why universal schemes do not work in the spirit of “How to overcome stress in 10 steps”?

The answer to this question was to find an American psychologist and neurobiologist Richard Davidson. He found that people experience stress in different ways and come out of it because they relate to different emotional types. How to determine your type and apply this knowledge?

Emotions and stress

Stress is a constant companion of modern man. Residents of megacities are especially vulnerable: hours in public transport or traffic jams, endless haste and vanity, multitasking that is required of us at work, and, as a result, constant nervous tension and negative emotions.

Stress makes us sharp, irritable, aggressive, leads to the fact that we pick up infections, more often we suffer from flu. Chronic diseases and heart problems are aggravated. It turns out a vicious circle: negative emotions provoke stress, and stress affects the general emotional background.

To prevent stress or cope with its consequences, you need to find a way that suits your emotional type, and take measures in time.

6 aspects of emotional types

The emotional type is a unique combination of our experiences and reactions to different factors. These are our unique features caused by the physiology of the brain. People with different emotional types behave differently. Some after failure at work quickly recover and go further, others fall into despair and feel like losers. Some are used to listening and comforting loved ones, others prefer to keep the distance.

Emotional types are distinguished by the following signs:

1. Resistance to external influences. Do you know how to quickly leave failures behind or lose your composure for a long time? Do you show perseverance or immediately give up?

2. Forecasting the future. Do you treat life with optimism, do you continue what you started, even if everything went according to plan?

3. Social intuition. Do you know how to read the intonations and body language of others, feel their mood and internal state?

4. Self -knowledge. How well you know and feel, realize your sensations and emotions, recognize the messages of the body?

5. Sensitivity to the situation. Are you able to capture the nuances of behavior in different groups, feel a common mood and evaluate the relevance of certain replicas?

6. Attentiveness. The concentration on the task is given to you

easily or with great difficulty?

The combination of indicators for each of the shirt gives your individual emotional type, unique, like a fingerprint. It is important to understand: there is no ideal or even “normal” emotional type, but it is better to learn yourself and take into account your characteristics.

Emotional type in action

At the consultation, Olga complained about the conflict with her colleague. She herself recently, but managed to prove herself well and become a senior specialist. Her colleague has been working for a long time, feels free and sabotages responsibilities. For example, it may go on business in the middle of a working day, leaving Olga to deal with urgent tasks.

After Olga filled the questionnaire to determine the emotional type, it turned out that she had a high indicator (9) on the scale of capturing context and sensitivity to the situation. Olga is very worried about the current conflict. At the same time, the stability indicator – 6 – indicates an insufficient ability to recover after failures. Each conflict is perceived too close to the heart, and because of this, discomfort and uncertainty in the correctness of its behavior appear. In addition, Olga’s attentiveness is 6 points, which means that it is quite difficult for her to concentrate in practice.

Olga is very important to learn how to defend borders, increase self -confidence, voice wishes and disagreement immediately, and not go into internal experiences. Sessions of meditation will help her to train attentiveness and concentration.
